LG Infinia 55LX9500 Review

In television technology, LG has been a fierce competitor for many years, and the LG Infinia 55LX9500 continues to adhere to that high standard. The main thing that makes this set stand out from all the others is the 3D technology it comes with, although that technology has some issues that need to be fixed. This set is one of the thinnest side lit LEDs we've ever seen (it's just slightly less than an inch thick). It offers new technology and a lot of features, but they come at a high price point. Here, you will learn about the features of the LG Infinia 55LX9500, and get our unbiased review.

55LX9500 Just as is the case with any higher-priced LED set available today, the Infinia 55LX9500 has a lot of extras intended to keep us entertained all without leaving our living room. The 9500 television set series has the same apps and widgets that you will find on the Infinia 55LE8500, such as Picasa, Vudu and Youtube (all Yahoo-powered). We expect that there will be more apps released for this set in the very near future; the television has a wide selection of extras, but the list is still smaller than that for the Vizio XVT553SV.

According to The School of HDTV, a big thing that makes the Infinia 55LX9500 stand apart from the competition is its ultra-thin, sleek design. The black frame surrounding the screen is among the thinnest available, making the viewable area a lot larger. This feature is expected to crop up on subsequent LED TV sets because of the clean look and enlarged viewing area. The set is slightly more than an inch thick, making it one of the slimmest LED sets sold today and allowing for easy access to all of the component connections. For the most part, the Infinia 55LX9500's features will provide hours of fun and easy use.

The display on the LED TV is one of the most important considerations when you're contemplating a purchase. Any maker can build a television set with a lot of extras and gadgets, but there's no way to fake a quality picture. More so than other companies, LG understands the importance of picture quality on an LED TV; they've spent a lot of time perfecting both 2D and 3D displays. As is the case with the Infinia 8500, the 9500 does a great job with local dimming and provides very true color for a large screen. However, the glass front on this set has a tendency to "wash out" in bigger rooms and it has glare.

Our testers have found some issues with the 2D picture on this set. We believe that LG put so much focus into this set's 3D aspect that they sort of skimped on the quality of the 2D. The 1080p picture is sometimes subpar, and when the dimming and color saturation settings are lowered, some can observe a faint blue tint from the LEDs. These issues aren't a deal-breaker, but if you are going to invest in an LED television, you may as well get one you really want. LG seems to have noticed this issue and they included display adjustments in the set. With this TV, there are so many settings to adjust that you can surely enhance the picture to your liking.
