Scorpion King 2
Usually these made-for-dvd movies don't turn me on too much.  Usually they are the movies which don't get picked up by the studios because they aren't that good.

But this one is actually pretty good.

If you are a fan of "The Mummy" series then it's worth your while to watch this movie.

It explains how "the Scorpion King" got his start: Rising through the ranks of the military to ultimately defeat the tyrannical ruling king.

The movie doesn't actually show us the Scorpion King ascending the throne - I guess they're going to save that for a sequel which should fit in nicely between this movie and the one made famous by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

The story is done very well, and the special effects are quite good for a straight to dvd movie.  In fact when I think about it, I wonder why there seems to be so many "less than good" movies that make it into theaters when this one didn't.  That is, unless that was the plan - to release straight to dvd.

As for how this movie fits into the whole "Mummy" phenomenon I'm not sure it does unless you're a real fan. It definitely has a place in the Scorpion King universe, and I suppose it's one of those movies that real fans will eat up.

Kinda like a spin-off of the Star Wars universe where you are introduced to new characters who have their own struggles within the larger picture.

Overall I give this movie a B+
