the Spiderwick Chronicles
I've had this movie for a little while but I wasn't sure what to expect so I kept putting off watching it until just recently.

Boy was that a mistake - this movie is very good entertainment for the whole family (as long as they are older than 12 or 13 that is).

I say that because there are parts which may be scary to kids under 12, but if they are older I doubt they'll have nightmares.

So the movie is based on the popular series and is about the "invisible" creatures all around us which we don't see but which interact with us on a daily basis.  Arthur Spiderwick (a scientist played by David Strathairn) not only discovers this world but begins documenting it including spells and incantations one can use for good or evil to help protect or destroy this world within our world.

Spiderwick dissappears and the secrets remain hidden until the Grace family moves into Spiderwick's secluded old house.  From the moment they move in things start happening.  The pace and tension in the movie build until the Grace children ultimately confront Mulgarath (played by Nick Nolte) the evil Ogre intent on destroying the world.

The movie is incredible - the special effects are awesome and the acting is superb.  In fact, I think props should go to Freddie Highmore for playing twin brothers.  You really do believe that there are 2 boys instead of just one.

I give it an A+
