Movie Review: Christine

christineRecently, probably because I recently watched the mist, I decided that I wanted to revisit more Stephen King movies.

I'm a big fan of King's books, but I've found a few of the movies to be, how shall I put this, less than accurate representations of the books.

It is because King puts so much detail into his books that it would be almost impossible to try and transfer that to the screen without boring the audience.

Don't get me wrong, it's by no means boring in the books, but I think such attention to detail would be difficult if not impossible to attain on the screen.

But I digress, as I said above, I have been hankering for some older King inspired movies, so my hunt took me to this movie - Christine.

It's based on the book of the same name in which a 1958 Plymouth Fury is actually the star of the book and movie.

The car has the ability to not only drive itself, but take revenge on those who would do her harm.

But we don't find that out until later.  So let me start at the beginning.

The story revolves around Arnie Cunningham, a nerdy high school kid who is always being picked on by not only people at his school, but also his parents.

One day he comes across a rusty old car for sale.  Despite his best friends warnings, Arnie buys the car intent on restoring it.

Throughout the movie we see the restoration progress until ultimately Arnie is the proud owner of a Cherry 50's car.

As I said earlier, this car has a darker side.  One that ultimately takes Arnie, despite the efforts of his best friend.

I remember when this movie came out, they interviewed producers of the show who used many cars to make this movie work - something like 10 or 15 identical 1958 Plymouth Fury's.

Overall I still give this movie an 8/10.
