Tell you what.. this film was marketed totally wrong. The previews (that probably gave a lot of men the willies) show it as a modern gore filled "Fatal Attraction". The previews make this film out to be gore, horror and more gore. Oh sure this is a horror movie but it's more of a teenage coming of age movie with a radioactive genetic twist. This film is also very funny yet it was not marketed this way either. It has some great comedic undertones, even if they are a little dark. However none of this comes through in the previews.
I think that is a really a shame as this film has a whole other side people missed out. That said even thought it is a coming of age teenage love story it quickly goes dark, however it still doesn't lose it's comedic edge. As you may guess bad things start to happen to Dawn (played brilliantly by Jess Weixler) and in turn bad things start to happen to those who are causing her pain. I think you can guess what happens next from the previews.
I also think the film would of been a lot better without ever showing the results of Dawn's "power". This film really enjoys showing you the gore. When really the screams should of been enough. I call this the Eli Roth effect. For some reason film directors or maybe it's the producers, think the more you show of the gore the better the film is, however this is the not the case. Anyway this film really goes down the toilet the last 30 minutes and actually erased all the goodwill it gained with me in the first hour or so. Basically the plot goes up in smoke and all kinds of stupid things start happening. On top of all that the Behind The Scenes is all talking heads nonsense.
I wish I could rate this film for the first hour and then the last 30 minutes but that's not how we do it here is it?
Over all I give this film a C

Recently, probably because I recently watched the mist, I decided that I wanted to revisit more Stephen King movies.I'm a big fan of King's books, but I've found a few of the movies to be, how shall I put this, less than accurate representations of the books.
It is because King puts so much detail into his books that it would be almost impossible to try and transfer that to the screen without boring the audience.
Don't get me wrong, it's by no means boring in the books, but I think such attention to detail would be difficult if not impossible to attain on the screen.
But I digress, as I said above, I have been hankering for some older King inspired movies, so my hunt took me to this movie - Christine.
It's based on the book of the same name in which a 1958 Plymouth Fury is actually the star of the book and movie.
The car has the ability to not only drive itself, but take revenge on those who would do her harm.
But we don't find that out until later. So let me start at the beginning.
