DVD Review - There Will Be Blood

there-will-be-blood.jpegNormally I am not one to enjoy Oscar nominated movies. I generally find them too long and too full of hidden meanings.  But I am a big fan of Daniel Day-Lewis so I thought I'd give it a shot. And I was impressed.

Day-Lewis does carry this movie, but most of the other characters are also incredibly well developed.

The story follows the life of Daniel Plainview - a guy who seemingly stumbles into oil.  He starts out as a silver miner, but somehow manages to make a lot of money drilling for oil.

One day, a stranger tracks Plainview down and lets him know of a huge oil reserve in a little town.  So he takes his son with him to check the area.

Here he runs into a evangelical preacher named Eli Sunday and almost immediately these two are determined not to like each other.

As time goes on Plainview makes more and more money through oil and despite the efforts of his competitors, the railways and even the preacher, he manages to build an empire.

There are a few moments in the movie where you begin to wonder when Karma is going to rear it's head against Plainview, and it does happen from time to time, but in the end Plainview wins - and loses.

There Will Be Blood is full of rich sights and sounds and some great characters.  Daniel Day-Lewis is almost overpowering in this role.  You want to love and hate Plainview at the same time.

Whether you like or don't like the actors in this movie, I suggest watching it to see just how great they are.

Overall I give this move an A+
