DVD Review - The Mist

I have to start by saying I'm a big fan of Stephen King. He is the master of horror. Not only does he put together some incredible stories, but his character development is second to none in my opinion.

That being said, I have been disappointed in the past with some of the movies which have been adapted from his books. While for the most part I like them, there are a few which lack the richness of the story.

That is most likely because King goes into such detail in some cases. For example, Delores Claiborne, which was a great movie, was still a better book. There were details in the book which you just can't transfer to film.

That is why I was a little concerned upon hearing of this new movie based on a King story. But let me just say the movie is brilliant.

In too many horror movies you get a group hysteria which makes you wonder how someone could do such a thing. And while there is group hysteria in The Mist, there is also another group. A "logical" group. This is the group you hope would exist in all those other horror movies.

Anyways, the story revolves around a group of people seemingly going about their day-to-day routine when a mysterious mist rolls into their small town. Unbeknownst to them, there are creatures in the mist. They soon find out that these creatures are deadly.

As time goes on we learn that the creatures are here because of some secret military experiment gone wrong.

And since these people don't know how long this mist will last, or even how far it has spread, a small group decides to make a run for it, and drive as far as they can.

That's about all I'm going to say as from this point, the movie gets very interesting. I will say, however, that it has a tragic ending. One that makes you think, afterwards.

I rate this move an A+.
